A regular tidy-up keeps the surface level in check, but some signs mean it's time to go deeper. Here's what to watch for.

1. Dust keeps coming back within a day or two

If surfaces look dusty again almost as soon as you've wiped them, it's often a sign that dust has settled into vents, blinds, and upholstery — areas a regular clean doesn't usually reach.

2. Grout and tile lines look permanently dingy

Everyday mopping cleans the surface of tile, but grout lines absorb grime over time. Once scrubbing with a regular household cleaner stops making a visible difference, a deep clean with proper grout treatment is usually the next step.

3. There's a lingering odor you can't place

Persistent smells — especially in kitchens and bathrooms — are often coming from spaces a routine wipe-down skips: behind appliances, inside cabinets, or around drain areas.

4. It's been a while since furniture was moved

Dust, crumbs, and pet hair collect steadily under and behind furniture. If it's been months since anything was moved, that's usually enough time for it to build up noticeably.

5. You're prepping for guests, a new season, or a move

Deep cleans are also simply well-timed around milestones — before hosting, at the start of a new season, or ahead of a move-in or move-out.
